Spring Table Topper

The table looked very bare after the autumn and Christmas stuff was packed away, so a request was made for a spring table topper. I had a charm pack in my stash from a Moda range called Fresh by Deb Strain, along with some leftover white on white and some green Makower dimples fabric. The squares went together quickly, the quilting took an afternoon and the scalloped edging a few more hours. It's more late spring/early summer, but I'm happy with it and it reminds us of the weather we're looking forward to.

The thread used for quilting the top was some leftover King Tut 988 (Oasis) and as you can see I only just had enough! The thread on the back was a Mettler cotton also from my stash. The wadding used is Warm & Natural, a nice flat wadding for table runners. I'm pleased to report that the whole thing was made from my stash, a rare event indeed!

  1. That is so very pretty and the quilting is lovely too. Taking the time to make the scalloped edge really elevates this to something special - well done you!

  2. The scalloped edges are a bit of a fiddle, but really do make a nice finish for a small piece like this. Actually, I like them on bigger quilts too!

  3. I love the quilting on this - tulips! Actually, I love the fresh colours too. It won't surprise you to know that I've been contemplating the different colours/shades/patterns of the squares and how wonderfully that they all go together.

    Scalloped edges? Too clever!

  4. Great quilting.. Did you do it with your fingers crossed to not run out of thread... that was very lucky!

  5. That's beautiful and I love the scalloped edging, but you obviously like to live dangerously looking at how much (or rather, how little) thread you had left. Your quilting is amazing.

  6. That's a cracker Ali. When I'm knitting and I think I shall run out of thread before the end of the row I knit faster. Barmy innit?
Can you feel a Scalloped Edge tutotial coming on?
